STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — A hat trick by Sofia Ismael propelled Penn State to a dominant 4-1 victory in the second weekend game against the Robert Morris Colonials Saturday afternoon at Pegula Ice Arena.

With the score at 3-1 just over halfway through the third period, Ismael took a breakaway and buried it past Robert Morris goaltender Maggie Hatch to give the Nittany Lions their largest lead of the game, and of the weekend.

Unlike the Friday night game of the weekend series, Penn State was the team that started strong. Two goals by Ismael on either side of a Kylie Amelkovich goal spotted the Nittany Lions a 3-0 lead in the first period.

Robert Morris got one back on a power play goal early in the second period from Jessica MacKinnon off of a scrum in front of the Penn State goaltender to cut the Nittany Lion lead to 3-1. And while the Colonials looked as if they would cut further into the lead early in the third, Ismael’s hat trick goal proved to be too much for

Robert Morris to overcome.

Robert Morris goaltender Maggie Hatch ended the game saving 48 out of 52 shots, good for a 0.923 save percentage.

Penn State goaltender Maddy Campbell made 3 saves on 4 shots for the win.
